In a nutshell: Irresponsible drinks promotions were banned under new mandatory licensing conditions on 6th April 2010. The new conditions will include the following:

  • A ban on irresponsible promotions such as “all you can drink for £10″ offers
  • A ban on “dentist’s chairs” where alcohol is poured directly into customers’ mouths
  • Licensees’ to ensure that free tap water is available for customers.

Over 1 in 5 blame beer pressure for drinking more

In a nutshell: A YouGov poll suggests that over one in five (22%) of people who drink more than they planned put it down to peer pressure. However peer pressure to drink to excess could be all in our minds according to a survey published for the Department of Health today.
